As big fans of Lucienne Day and her wonderfully creative designs, we had to celebrate her centenary year in our own little way. Although the silk mosaic format was more restrictive than her earlier textile patterns, Lucienne relished the challenge of working within this self-imposed discipline, experimenting freely with the interplay of colour.

Her first design for Tomkinsons, a mosaic-like pattern called Tesserae, won a Design Centre Award in 1957.
