Then I watched the movie and was actually very much surprised. If I had one criticism it would be the fact that it doesn't seem to know which audience it is aimed at. I watched it blind and it held my attention from start to end. The buildup is a little lengthy, but serves as a great contrast for when the sunglasses are on. On the other hand, all of that has camp value, and director John Carpenter also gives us quite a few moral messages that are still highly relevant 30 years later: beware of the mass media controlling you via its messaging ('Conform', 'Submit', 'Don't Read', etc).
